Hempstead resident Lesean Armstead was arrested at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 on robbery charges after he was located by the officers of the Hempstead Police Department and transported to the Nassau County Robbery Squad to be investigated.
According to police, the investigation into Armstead determined that he had been involved in three robberies of Hempstead businesses throughout the month of September.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, Armstead allegedly walked into VIM clothing store on Main Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. and attempted to steal a pair of sweatpants, police said.
When an employee stopped him, Armstead allegedly punched him in the face and body several times causing bruising, swelling, arm, and leg pain for the employee.
Armstead then left the store with the sweatpants without paying.
On Friday, Sept. 11, Armstead allegedly entered Chicken and Sub Deli on Fulton Avenue shortly before 6 p.m., walked behind the cash register counter without permission and pulled out a black handgun.
It is alleged that the cashier backed away when Armstead demanded money and displayed the gun, and he grabbed cash from the register and fled on foot.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, police said that Armstead forcibly took an employee’s wallet at 7-Eleven at approximately 6:15 a.m. while he was outside the South Franklin Street store.
Armstead allegedly knocked the employee to the ground, kicking and punching him until the 43-year-old was unconscious. His victim suffered bruising and swelling while Armstead again fled the area on foot.
Following his arrest, Armstead, 36, was charged with one count each of first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in Mineola.
